Welcome to the website of the CFDLAB of Prof. Steven H. Frankel! We focus on modeling and simulation of transitional and turbulent flows. We primarily use the large eddy simulation (LES) approach and employ advanced subgrid-scale models, high-fidelity numerical methods and high-performance parallel computing to simulate flows in a variety of application areas include aerodynamics, aeroacoustics, cardiovascular, cavitation, combustion, microfluidic and multiphase flows. We mainly develop our own in-house codes but also utilize open-source and commercial CFD codes such as OpenFOAM and Star-CCM+.
Below you will find links to primary research areas:
- Aerodynamics
- Aeroacoustics
- Buoyant flows
- Cardiovascular flow
- Cavitation
- Combustion
- Fluid-structure interactions
- High-speed flows
- High-speed reacting flows
- Microfluidics
- Multiphase flows
- Rotorcraft aerodynamics
- Turbulent flows
